Natural Remedies For Mouth Ulcers

1. Coconut

Coconut contains many nutrients, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6, iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, to name but a few. Coconut milk obtained from the fruit’s white flesh contains lauric acid, antimicrobial lipids, and an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral capric acid. There are also anti-bacterialand anti-inflammatory effects of coconut oil.

It makes all coconut products helpful in the treatment of mouth ulcers. If you sometimes develop mouth ulcers due to nutrient deficiency or get them from infections, there is coconut to help you out. You can gargle your mouth with coconut milk, rub some coconut oil on your mouth ulcers or drink a glass or two of coconut water per day.

2. Black Tea

You can also treat the mouth ulcers with a basic ingredient such as black tea. Black tea has a strong astringent tannin. The astringent can be defined as a chemical compound that reduces or limits the tissues of the body.

Astringent drugs are widely used to shrink mucous membranes or tissues to stop blood serum discharge or mucous secretions accompanying a sore throat, hemorrhage and ulcers. So why not use natural tannin astringent found in black tea. It is both cheap and an effective treatment for ulcers in the mouth. After drinking the tea, place the wet bag on your mouth ulcers and let it sit for 15 minutes.

3. Aloe Vera

There’s another mouth ulcer relieving herbal remedy, aloe vera. Because of its various benefits, this herb has become quite popular with many medical conditions. It has both anti-viral and anti-inflammatory effects, making it also a safe remedy for mouth ulcers.

It not only decreases the pain and inflammation caused by ulcers, but also accelerates their process of healing due to the various nutrients this provides. Aloe vera has amino acids and vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C that that help when it comes to ulcers. Simply apply some aloe vera gel on the mouth ulcers.

4. Baking Soda

Sometimes certain foods, particularly acidic foods such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, coffee and even chocolates can cause ulcers in the mouth. Baking soda is useful in such a situation as it well neutralizes acid. It is alkaline and controls our pH level, which can improve  the healing of your ulcers. Baking soda also has some anti-bacterial properties that can also cure infections.

In half a cup of water, mix 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda. Take this solution in your mouth and swish it for about a minute. Spit it out. Repeat this three to five times a day.

5. Saltwater

Salt water was used for wound and sore treatment as a natural antiseptic. Salt also has natural anti-inflammatory and disinfectant properties, making it a perfect cure for mouth ulcers as well. Many people apply salt directly to their ulcers.

This stings a lot but ends up numbing the wound and relieving pain. However, instead of using it directly to avoid extreme dryness that can be caused by it, it is better to use salt dissolved in water.

Mix with water and salt. Take some saltwater in your mouth and for about 20-30 seconds swish it in there. Spit it out. Repeat until you finish the cup with the water. Do this four or five times a day.
